Dhaka, Sept. 24 -- Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar on Tuesday strongly criticized BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir for his recent comments on seat-sharing between the two parties, describing them as "fabricated, offensive, and spiteful."

Fakhrul, in an interview with the Indian daily Ei Samay, alleged that Jamaat had pressured the BNP by demanding 30 seats under proportional representation.

In a statement, Porwar said Jamaat was shocked that a senior political figure like Fakhrul would resort to making such "unfounded, offensive, and malicious" claims about their party.

"If these words truly came from him, we have no choice but to register our protest and condemnation," he added.
