Dhaka, June 4 -- The Election Commission (EC) has decided in principle to reinstate Jamaat-e-Islami's registration as a political party and return its electoral symbol-the weighing scales-following recent court directives.

The decision was made during a meeting held Wednesday at Nirbachan Bhaban in Agargaon, chaired by Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin and attended by four other commissioners.

Following the meeting, Election Commissioner Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah said, "The Election Commission has made an in-principle decision-Jamaat will regain both its party registration and electoral symbol. However, completing the official procedures will take some time."
