Dhaka, Dec. 21 -- International human rights organisations and the United Nations have strongly condemned the killing of youth protest leader Sharif Osman Hadi, urging the Bangladeshi authorities to carry out a prompt, impartial and transparent investigation amid rising political tensions ahead of the national elections scheduled for February.

The United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has expressed deep concern over the incident.

Speaking at a regular press briefing at UN headquarters on Friday, the Secretary-General's spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said Guterres condemns the killing of Sharif Osman Bin Hadi and extends his condolences to the victim's family.
