Dhaka, March 2 -- The Islamic Foundation, Bangladesh (IFB) has called upon the countrymen to preserve the sanctity of Ramadan.

The IFB came up with the call at a rally organized on Saturday morning on the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque premises to welcome the holy month of Ramadan, said a press release on Saturday noon.

The Ramadan is the ninth month of the Arabic calendar, which is observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting (sawm), prayers (salah), recitation from the Holy Quran and other religious activities, reports BSS.

The rally was organized to create awareness among people to defend the sanctity of the holy month of Ramadan of 1446 Hijri, the release added.
