Dhaka, March 23 -- A 65-year-old man named Surya Mridha has been arrested by the police for raping a 16-year-old mentally challenged girl in Ishwardi. He is the girl's grandfather by relation. He was sent to jail by the Pabna court on Tuesday (March 19) afternoon. Earlier on Monday (March 18) night, he was arrested in Jaynagar Madhyapara village of Chalimpur Union of the upazila.
According to local sources and the statement filed with the police station, since the death of the mentally challenged girl's father, she used to stay with her grandmother in various houses in Jayanagar Madhyapara of Chalimpur.
