Dhaka, March 19 -- Grameen University, Dhaka, has officially received government approval, becoming the 116th private university in Bangladesh. Established under the Grameen Trust, the institution is led by Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus.
The Ministry of Education granted approval on Monday, outlining 22 specific conditions. A formal confirmation was sent to Grameen Trust Chairman Md Ashraful Hasan on Tuesday.
Key requirements for the university include a seven-year temporary permit, a campus of at least 25,000 square feet (either owned or leased), three faculties with six departments, and a Tk 1.5 crore fund held in a scheduled bank.
