Dhaka, Feb. 4 -- The government plans to eliminate police verification for passport issuance and renewal to reduce corruption and ease public hassle.
Earlier, to address passport-related complexities, a meeting was held at the secretariat presided over by Senior Secretary Dr Nasimul Gani of the Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday morning.
Before this decision, the advisory council of the interim government discussed the matter and designated the national identity card and birth registration certificate as the primary documents for passport issuance and renewal.
If these two documents are correct then there should be no obstacle in issuing or renewing passports, according to the decision of the meeting.
