Dhaka, July 2 -- The government has ordered the release of 56 prisoners who were serving life sentences, granting them clemency after more than two decades of incarceration. The decision comes as part of a sentence remission process under the existing prison regulations.

The matter was confirmed on Tuesday by Md. Jannat-ul-Ferdous, Assistant Inspector General (Media and Development) of the Department of Prisons.

According to the prison official, these individuals have already completed 20 years of their life sentences, including remission benefits.
