Dhaka, July 20 -- Police have filed four murder cases in connection with the deaths resulting from violent clashes surrounding the National Citizen Party's (NCP) rally in Gopalganj.

Each case names between 1,400 to 1,500 unidentified individuals-allegedly activists and leaders of the ruling Awami League and its affiliated organisations-as suspects.

Gopalganj Sadar Police Officer-in-Charge Mir Mohammad Sajedur Rahman confirmed on Sunday that the cases were filed late Saturday night.

A fifth murder case is expected to be filed soon, following the death of autorickshaw driver Ramzan Munshi, who died of gunshot injuries while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on July 17.
