Dhaka, April 27 -- Police have arrested former Cox's Bazar-1 MP Zafar Alam in Dhaka. According to Dhaka Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (Media) Talebur Rahman, Zafar was detained around 3 PM on Sunday in the Dhanmondi area. Talebur Rahman stated that Zafar Alam is facing charges in eight cases, including one for murder. Since the fall of the Awami League government following last year's student-led mass uprising, he had been in hiding. Zafar was elected to parliament from Cox's Bazar-1 in the 2018 general election as an Awami League candidate. However, after failing to secure the party's nomination for the 12th parliamentary elections, he contested as an independent and was defeated.
