Dhaka, June 25 -- Former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal was arrested by detectives in Dhaka on Wednesday, confirmed Talebur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner (Media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

He was detained from the Moghbazar area in connection with a case filed at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station. The case, lodged by the BNP two days earlier, accuses 24 individuals-including former CECs, Election Commissioners, and officials involved in the 10th, 11th, and 12th parliamentary elections-of electoral misconduct and partiality.

Earlier, former CEC KM Nurul Huda was also detained from his Uttara residence on Sunday evening in relation to the same case.
