Dhaka, March 30 -- The ruling Awami League leader and Pakundia Upazila Parishad Chairman of Kishoreganj Rafiqul Islam Renu was sentenced to two years imprisonment by the tribunal for the crime of forging the signature of Prime Minister's economic adviser Dr. Moshiur Rahman.
Chairman Rafiqul Islam Renu is absconding; an arrest warrant was issued against him as a convict on January 4 from the tribunal.
According to the complaint, Uttara Bank Ltd granted a loan of Tk 2 crore 5 lakh from M/s Elite Iron and Steel GP Sheet Limited. Pakundia upazila chairman Renu took Tk 35 lakh from the company by promising to waive this loan.
