Dhaka, Sept. 18 -- Bangladesh recorded five new dengue-related deaths in 24 hours ending Wednesday morning, pushing this year's death toll from the mosquito-borne illness to 161.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 622 fresh cases were detected during the same period, bringing the total number of confirmed infections in 2025 to 39,814.

Among the latest fatalities, four were women and one a man. Two patients died while receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, while the other three succumbed at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.

At present, 1,965 dengue patients remain admitted to hospitals across the country, with 1,236 of them receiving care outside Dhaka.Last year, the virus claimed 575 lives an...
