Dhaka, Sept. 1 -- BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has been exempted from a case filed in 2013 over allegations of obstructing police duties and attempted murder.The order was issued on Sunday afternoon by Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Zakir Hossain following a hearing.
Fakhrul's counsel, Advocate Syed Zainul Abedin Mezbah, confirmed the development.According to case documents, on 2 March 2013, the police from Ramna Model Police Station filed the case against Fakhrul and 28 others.
Later that year, investigators submitted a charge sheet against 21 accused, including Fakhrul.Advocate Mezbah explained that the defense subsequently moved the High Court challenging the charges brought against Fakhrul.
