Dhaka, Sept. 10 -- Former secretary Bhuiyan Mohammad Shafiqul Islam, along with seven more leaders and activists of the banned Awami League and its affiliated organizations, has been arrested.

The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) confirmed the matter on Tuesday.Former secretary Bhuiyan Shafiqul Islam was arrested in a case filed on charges of conspiring against the government. Earlier, in the same case, former Awami League presidium member Abdul Latif Siddiqui was arrested from a "Mancha 71" event.
