Dhaka, Aug. 11 -- A Dhaka court on Sunday refused bail to former Chief Justice ABM Khairul Haque in a case filed over allegations of corruption, deliberate misuse of judicial authority, and fabricating a court judgment.
The case stems from his role in altering the landmark 13th Amendment verdict that had abolished Bangladesh's caretaker government system.Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mahbubur Rahman ordered Haque to be sent to jail upon completion of his remand.
Defence counsel Monayem Nabi Shahin sought his release on bail, while state prosecutor Muhammad Shamsuddoha Suman opposed the plea. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court rejected the bail petition.
