Dhaka, June 26 -- Former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal has been arrested by police in Dhaka in connection with a case alleging electoral misconduct.
According to Mohammad Nasirul Islam, Joint Commissioner (Administration and Intelligence-South) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), a team from the Detective Branch (DB) detained Awal on Wednesday afternoon during a raid in the Moghbazar area of the capital.
The arrest follows the filing of a case by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on 22 June at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station (Case No. 11), which names 24 individuals-including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and three former Chief Election Commissioners-on charges of vote rigging and irregularities i...
