Dhaka, Nov. 16 -- The European Union has supported Bangladesh's ongoing transition under the interim government, saying it views the process as a crucial step toward restoring democratic governance.
In a statement on its official Facebook page on Thursday, the EU welcomed the leadership of Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus as the country moves toward what it hopes will be participatory, free and fair elections scheduled for February next year.
EU officials noted that the interim administration now carries the responsibility of creating conditions that allow all citizens to take part without fear or obstruction."We urge the leadership of Chief Adviser Yunus in view of the holding of participatory, free and fair elections in February next year...
