Dhaka, Feb. 4 -- Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has said holding elections without implementing minimum reforms would not be appropriate.

He emphasized the need for a future government that ensures accountability from villages to cities, arguing that the people have been deprived for too long.

"A fair election is necessary where every citizen can exercise their voting rights," he said after inspecting flood-affected areas at Kalikapur village in Mirzanagar union along Muhuri River and Ballamukhar Dam in Parshuram upazila on Monday.

Dr. Shafiqur demanded the construction of a permanent dam on the riverbanks to prevent future flooding.
