Dhaka, May 28 -- Bangladesh will celebrate Eid-ul-Azha on Saturday, June 7, following the official sighting of the crescent moon marking the beginning of the Islamic month of Zilhajj.

The National Moon Sighting Committee made the announcement after a meeting held at 6:30 pm on Wednesday at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque conference hall. The meeting was presided over by Religious Affairs Adviser Dr AFM Khalid Hossain.

With the sighting of the moon, the month of Zilhajj in the Hijri year 1446 has officially commenced, confirming the date for one of the most sacred Islamic festivals observed by Muslims worldwide.
