Dhaka, May 18 -- Dhaka University (DU) students on Sunday besieged Shahbagh Police Station after a 48-hour ultimatum to arrest the main suspect in the murder of Shammo, a student of the Institute of Education and Research (IER), expired without any action.
The protest followed a previously announced programme, beginning with a rally at the base of the Raju Memorial Sculpture. From there, students marched to the police station in a show of frustration and solidarity.
Around 12:30 pm, students from various departments gathered in front of Shahbagh Police Station, joined by several faculty members. At the rally, DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Niaz Ahmed Khan expressed support for the students and called for swift justice in Shammo's murder.
