Dhaka, May 18 -- Thousands of supporters of BNP leader Ishraque Hossain locked all entry points to the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) headquarters, Nagar Bhaban, on Saturday, demanding that their leader be sworn in as mayor in accordance with a recent Election Commission declaration.
On-site observations confirmed that all gates of Nagar Bhaban were secured with padlocks by demonstrators, effectively bringing municipal operations to a standstill for the day.
The protestors, mobilised under the banner of 'Dhakabashi' (Residents of Dhaka), also pledged to continue their demonstration on Sunday.
