Dhaka, May 13 -- BNP Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas has claimed that a "drama" is unfolding behind the scenes concerning the ban on the Awami League, a party that played a key role in the country's 1971 Liberation War.
Speaking at an event held at the National Press Club in Dhaka, Abbas criticized the authorities for allegedly allowing the National Citizen Party (NCP) to stage demonstrations in restricted areas designated by Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
Referring to former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, he said: "Sheikh Hasina used to stage such dramas to divert public attention from more important national issues."
