Dhaka, July 24 -- Dr M Zubaidur Rahman, an independent director of Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC, has been elected as the new chairman of the bank.
The decision was made at a board meeting held on Wednesday which Dr Rahman also presided over, a senior bank official confirmed to the New Nation.
His appointment comes following the resignation of former chairman Md Obayed Ullah Al Masud on 17 July. Masud stepped down amid various allegations raised by the Bangladesh Bank concerning governance issues within the institution.
Dr Zubaidur Rahman, a seasoned academic and banking expert, is expected to bring leadership stability and oversight at a time when the bank is under increased regulatory scrutiny.
