Dhaka, Aug. 2 -- Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (Retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury announced on Saturday that the martyrs of the July Uprising, buried anonymously at Dhaka's Rayerbazar graveyard, will be identified through DNA testing.
Speaking during a visit to the mass grave on August 2, Jahangir said over 100 bodies were interred without identification as many families had initially declined to exhume the remains. "Now that families have agreed, arrangements will be made soon for identification," he added.
Once DNA matches are confirmed, families will have the option to transfer the bodies to their home villages for reburial if they wish, said the adviser.
