Dhaka, Nov. 11 -- The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has issued a new directive prohibiting police, except for those in charge, from using mobile phones while on duty.

This measure is aimed at ensuring effective law enforcement and maintaining public safety, especially during the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election.

The order, signed by DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md Sajjat Ali on Monday, highlights the growing concerns over the use of mobile phones by police officers during their shifts.

"It has been observed that such distractions interfere with the officers' ability to stay vigilant and perform their duties effectively, putting both their own safety and the public's at risk despite their visibility," the order read.
