Dhaka, June 14 -- Five more deaths were reported from dengue in 24 hours till Friday morning - the highest number of deaths in a single day so far this year, raising the number of fatalities from the Aedes mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh to 28 this year.

During the same period, 159 new patients were admitted to hospitals around the country. Among them, 124 are from the Barisal Division, according to the press release issued on Friday by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

It said that among the five deceased, two were male and three were female. Four of the deaths occurred in Barisal Division (outside of the city corporation area), while the other occurred in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).
