Dhaka, Aug. 24 -- Almost every corner of nearly all city roads are dug up for laying underground sewerage pipes to mitigate the waterlogging.

And even after completion, the location is not levelled the debris are left behind by the contractors, resulting in inconvenience to traffic and pedestrians alike.

It also leads to air pollution causing health risk to the city residents.

The authorities should make it mandatory for contractors to level the roads and repair properly and as fast as possible. The contract awarded for such work must include a specific clause in this regard, and payment must be made after inspection with a written certificate that the roads would be restored to a proper condition as it was before digging.
