Dhaka, Sept. 16 -- Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi on Friday addressed the recent discussions surrounding the export of 5,000 tons of ilish fish to West Bengal, India.

He stated that this export is a symbolic gesture for Durga Puja and will not impact the hilsa fish prices within Bangladesh.

The minister made these remarks while speaking with journalists at his residence on Central Road in Rangpur city.

He emphasized that Bangladesh produces 600,000 tons of ilish fish annually, making the export of 5,000 tons a relatively small quantity.

The decision to export this quantity was made following discussions with the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock.
