Dhaka, March 11 -- A violent clash between two factions of the BNP and Chhatra Dal over alleged extortion activities in Madhyanagar upazila of Sunamganj resulted in the death of a pedestrian and several others being injured on Monday night.

The deceased has been identified as Mohammad Ali, the son of late Hossain Ali Talukdar from Hossainpur village in the upazila. According to police and local sources, the incident stemmed from a dispute over extortion money being collected from lorries passing through Mahishkhola Bazar, a busy area near Tahirpur upazila.
