Dhaka, Feb. 3 -- The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has jacked up LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) prices by Tk 266 per 12 kg cylinder at the consumer level.

BERC announced the new price on Thursday, saying that it would be effective from Thursday evening.

After the hike, a 12-kg cylinder of LPG would now cost Tk 1,498 in February. The price was Tk 1,232 in January.

The price hike came at a time when masses are facing high inflation amid spiraling food and commodity prices in domestic market.

BERC said the new price would be effective from this evening.

Experts say any increase in the price of cooking gas cylinders at a time of high inflation will force people to cut back on other priorities.
