Dhaka, April 27 -- Women and Children Affairs and Social Welfare Adviser Sharmeen S Murshid has said that Begum Rokeya was not only a pioneer of Bangalee Muslim women's awakening, but also a brave soldier.

"The courage and sacrifices of your generation in the July Uprising in realizing the dream of building a new Bangladesh, are undeniable. You did not bow your heads even in the face of adversity, you (women) were determined for a country free from exploitation and discrimination," she said.

The adviser made these remarks while addressing the 3rd convocation ceremony of Central Women's University held on Saturday at the Officers' Club here, reports BSS.
