Dhaka, Feb. 26 -- The Japanese government has announced to provide $1.6 million to improve the basic living standards of Rohingya refugees and local communities residing in Cox's Bazar and Bhasan Char amid the fund crisis for supporting the Rohingyas.

For this purpose, the Japanese government signed an agreement worth 1.6 million USD with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) on Tuesday.

The Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh, Saida Shinichi, and the UNHCR Representative in Bangladesh, Sumbul Rizvi, signed the agreement. The contribution by Government of Japan through UNHCR this time will support refugees' access to adequate housing, primary healthcare services and livelihood empowerment.
