India, Jan. 14 -- BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Tuesday called for the Army Chief's intervention following the alleged killing of Shamsuzzaman Dablu, general secretary of the Jibannagar Municipal unit of BNP in Chuadanga, while in the custody of security forces.

In a statement, Fakhrul said incidents involving deaths caused by security personnel are harmful to the country and undermine the rule of law.

"Members of the security forces detained Shamsuzzaman Dablu on Monday night under the pretext of recovering arms and subjected him to inhuman torture, which ultimately caused his death. I express my deep shock and sorrow over this cruel and barbaric act," he said.
