Dhaka, Nov. 12 -- The government on Tuesday extended the special magistracy powers of commissioned officers of the armed forces with the rank of captain or above until February 28 next year.

The same powers were also extended to officers on deputation with the Bangladesh Coast Guard and Border Guard Bangladesh, allowing them to act as executive magistrates under several provisions of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898.

In accordance with Sections 12(1) and 17 of The Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898, special executive magistracy power is being conferred to those officers nationwide for the specified period.
