Dhaka, Jan. 26 -- Adviser to the Interim Government, Mahfuj Alam on Saturday asserted that the Awami League (AL) should be barred from participating in the upcoming general election to prevent the resurgence of fascism in Bangladesh's politics.

Speaking at a gathering in Hajiganj upazila, he declared, "If the Awami League is allowed to contest, it will pave the way for fascism to return."

Marking a historical reference, Alam reminded the audience of January 25, 1975, when Sheikh Mujibur Rahman established BAKSAL, dissolving opposition parties and undermining democratic movements.
