Dhaka, Oct. 23 -- Catching of mother hilsa fish is still going on despite the government's 22-day ban on netting any ilish across the country.

At least 42 fishermen were arrested in connection with the illegally netting mother ilish in the Padma and Jamuna river on Monday.

In Rajbari, at least two persons, including an ASI, were arrested while they were taking hilsa fish from the fisherman despite the government's 22-day ban on netting any ilish on Monday midnight.

The arrested have been identified as ASI Shafiqul Islam and Constable Osman Gani. Besides, 16 fishermen have been jailed on different terms.

Executive Magistrate Rafiqul Islam confirmed the news to the media.
