Dhaka, June 19 -- Around 20 percent of the 6,000 plastic factories in the country have been adversely affected due to ongoing electricity and energy crises, said Shamim Ahmed, President of the Bangladesh Plastic Goods Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BPGMEA).

He said that the majority of these affected factories have already shut down, while the rest are on the verge of closure.

He shared this information at a press conference held on Wednesday at the BPGMEA office in Dhaka, organized to discuss the proposed national budget for FY 2025-26. Former presidents and current board members of the BPGMEA were also present at the event.
