Dhaka, April 14 -- Twenty Bangladeshi youths, previously detained in Myanmar for illegal trespassing, have been repatriated on Sunday via a Bangladesh Navy ship from MITT Port in Yangon.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the individuals had been captured by Myanmar law enforcement while being trafficked to Malaysia by unscrupulous agents. After months of detention, their return was made possible following diplomatic negotiations and verification of their Bangladeshi nationality.
"The Bangladesh Embassy in Myanmar arranged today's repatriation following successful discussions with Myanmar authorities," the statement said.
