Dhaka, Sept. 19 -- A total of 176 Bangladeshi nationals have returned home from Libya after being rescued from the Tajoura Detention Center in Tripoli. The return was made possible with the support of the International Organization for Migration (IOM). They flew back on 17 September and arrived in Dhaka early Thursday morning on Burak Airlines flight UZ222.
Foreign Ministry said that this group was brought back under IOM's voluntary humanitarian return programme, which has been regularly used to help distressed Bangladeshis leaving in Libya. The returnees had been stranded for months in unsafe and uncertain conditions, with little access to basic rights or work opportunities.
