Dhaka, April 25 -- Today is the 14th death anniversary of Begum Fawzia Samad, wife of the late MA Samad, an insurance legend and founder of Bangladesh General Insurance Company PLC.
Fawzia Samad was founder editor of 'Minar', the first Bangla children's magazine published in 1949, said a press release.
During the War of Independence, she allowed her home at Dhanmondi to receive the first cache of arms in April 1971 as a sanctuary of freedom fighters.
She set up free community schools 'Kushumkoli' and such other humanitarian facilities. She was the longest serving president (1973-2011) of 'Dhaka Ladies Club'.
She was born in Sylhet in 1929 and breathed her last on 25th April 2011 at a hospital in Singapore. She was the mother of Towhid...
