Dhaka, Sept. 18 -- A clash between Awami League (AL) and BNP supporters in Alokbali Union, Sadar Upazila, Narsingdi, left one man dead and 25 others injured early Thursday in a fight over local dominance.

The deceased has been identified as 62-year-old Edon Mia. Among the injured, five were shot, with three in critical condition, and were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Police and the deceased's relatives said the violence stemmed from a longstanding dispute between Asad Ali, president of the Alokbali Union AL unit, and Noab Ali, joint convener of the Union BNP unit, over control of the area. After August 5, AL supporters reportedly fled the area, and their return sparked clashes with BNP supporters early today.
