(Qazigund), May 16 -- A borewell in the Mandhole village area of Qazigund belt suddenly sank on Friday afternoon, creating panic in the locality.

Locals said that an employee of the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department and a local resident had a narrow escape when the ground caved in just moments after they moved away from the spot.

They added that the borewell had been in poor condition for weeks, but no action was taken.

The lack of timely intervention from higher authorities could have led to a major tragedy.

Residents have urged the administration to inspect such sites and ensure public safety.
