Srinagar, June 10 -- But what set the institution apart wasn't just its brightly coloured walls or cheerful classrooms, it was the promise of something rare in this part of the city: swimming classes for young girls.

As word spread, families gathered to glimpse the facility, some marveling at the idea of their daughters learning to swim - a skill often overlooked for girls in the region.

"I never had the chance to learn," said one mother, watching her daughter. "But now, maybe she will."

Director Kulbir Kour spoke on the occasion with a clear mission. "We want every child to step in with wonder and step out with confidence," she said.
