Srinagar, Jan. 14 -- - The Kashmir Valley reeled under severe cold, with Srinagar city - the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir - recording its lowest minimum temperature in nearly three decades, the Meteorological Department said here on Thursday.

Srinagar recorded a low of minus 8.4 degrees Celsius, which was the lowest temperature recorded in the city in twenty nine years, an official of the MET department said.

He said the minimum temperature of minus 11.8 degrees Celsius was recorded on 20 January 1991. The lowest ever was endured on 31 January 1893when the mercury had gone down to minus 14.4 degrees Celsius.. The Srinagar had yesterday recorded minimum temperature of minus 7.8 degrees Celsius.
