Srinagar, Aug. 13 -- "NOTICES issued 2 @jewelcarpet & @amazonIN for misbranding #KashmirCrafts," Director, Handicrafts and Handloom, Mussarat Zia posted on X. He also shared a screenshot of the Amazon listing, slamming the sale of low-quality products at throwaway prices in the name of genuine Kashmiri craftsmanship.
"They must b crazy offering 50% rebates on cheap FAKES in name of Authentic Kashmiri Handmade Silk Carpet for Rs.2,160 & Rs.2,630. UNACCEPTABLE. Brings disrepute 2 artisans & high value items," Zia wrote.
Officials noted that the size of the carpet mentioned in the listing, if genuinely handcrafted in silk, would cost upwards of Rs.25,000.
