Srinagar, March 21 -- The economic downturn in Kashmir has intensified in recent years due to political instability, the COVID-19 pandemic, and sluggish business activities. Small business owners, artisans, transporters, shopkeepers, and daily wage workers are among the worst affected. Many are struggling to meet basic expenses, let alone afford the escalating costs of wedding functions.

Traditionally, Kashmiri weddings extend over several days, requiring space for Wazwan preparation, seating arrangements, lighting, and sound systems. Under the new fee structure, families may now have to shell out Rs.75,000 or more just for the venue, a sum deemed unaffordable by most residents.
