Srinagar, May 21 -- For four days, the shelling did not stop. Now, with the guns silent, families in Poonch are walking back to what is left of their homes.
Some houses have gaping holes in the walls. Others have no walls at all.
The air is still heavy. Not with smoke, but with silence and sorrow.
Many families had no time to pack when they fled. They just ran.
Now, standing in front of what used to be their homes, they are trying to make sense of the loss.
Rashmi Jan was inside when it happened. A sudden blast, then darkness.
"I felt something pierce my leg, then my side. There was blood, but I didn't feel pain right away. Just shock," she said.
