Srinagar, Nov. 12 -- The winter chill has tightened its grip over the Kashmir Valley, with Srinagar-the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir-recording the coldest night of the season at minus 1.6 degrees Celsius, officials from the Meteorological (MeT) Department said on Tuesday.

According to the MeT data, Pahalgam remained the coldest place in the Valley, with the mercury dipping to minus 3.8 degrees Celsius. Qazigund, the gateway to Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 1.5 degrees, while Kupwara in north Kashmir settled at minus 2.0 degrees Celsius.

Gulmarg recorded a minimum temperature of minus 1.0 degrees Celsius, and Kokernag registered a low of 0.8 degrees Celsius.
