Srinagar, June 19 -- Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 35.2degC on Thursday, the hottest June day in the city in 20 years and a staggering seven degrees above normal. The last time Srinagar experienced comparable heat was on June 25, 2005, when the mercury hit 36.5degC, the all-time high for the month.
In Qazigund the temperature soared to 34.7degC, marking the hottest June day in 37 years. The previous record for the town was 35.7degC, registered on June 26, 1988.
South Kashmir's Kokernag recorded a maximum temperature of 33.8degC, making it the second-hottest June day on record. The highest remains 34.9degC, also from June 25, 2005.
